NAB Unveils Election Toolkit for Stations’ Political Coverage

Tue, 25 Feb 2020 17:07:43 -0500

The National Association of Broadcasters today announced the launch of its 2020 Election Toolkit, a print and online resource to help local broadcast radio and television stations with their news coverage of the 2020 presidential, congressional and local elections.
The toolkit provides broadcasters with resources to identify misinformation online, suggestions about fact-checking statements made by political candidates, tips for helping get out the vote and ideas for social media engagement with citizens. In addition, the toolkit offers scripts for public service announcements about voting in primary and general elections, as well as information about sponsoring debates and candidate forums.
“Broadcasters are the most-trusted source for political news and information, and we take seriously our role in helping educate voters about the issues affecting their communities,” said NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith. “The election toolkit provides guidance for broadcasters during their election coverage that will educate the electorate, promote civic engagement and build a stronger democracy.”
The toolkit was unveiled in advance of the 2020 State Leadership Conference on February 24, an annual meeting of more than 550 radio and TV broadcasters to discuss legislative and regulatory issues important to the broadcast industry.

FCC To Host March 26 Forum on 5G Virtualized Radio Access Networks

Fri, 21 Feb 2020 14:22:00 -0500

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai today announced that the agency will hold a Forum on 5G Virtualized Radio Access Networks on Thursday, March 26, 2020. At the forum, experts who are at the forefront of the development and deployment of interoperable, standards-based, virtualized radio access networks will join Chairman Pai and other Commission staff to discuss this paradigm-shifting approach to 5G network deployment.
“The FCC has taken aggressive action to promote American leadership in 5G—a major priority for the agency and the Administration generally. One way to advance this priority is through the development and deployment of more secure, cost-effective 5G network components. Virtualized radio access networks could help us do that, as I’ve heard here in the United States and discussed with stakeholders abroad,” said Chairman Pai. “We want the United States to lead the way with this innovative approach to mobile network deployment, and I look forward to hosting experts in the field for a productive discussion about the current state of vRAN- related technologies and the path ahead.”
The Forum on 5G Virtualized Radio Access Networks is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. EST on Thursday, March 26, 2020, and will be held in the Commission Meeting Room at FCC Headquarters, 445 12th Street, SW, Washington, DC. It will be open to the public and will also be webcast. Additional information regarding the agenda, speakers, and logistics will be released closer to the event.

NAB Affirms 2020 NAB Show Is Set for April; Devotes Resources to Address Coronavirus Concerns

Thu, 20 Feb 2020 17:18:03 -0500

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), organizer of NAB Show, affirmed the 2020 NAB Show is set to take place as planned, April 18 – 22 in Las Vegas. The association is closely monitoring COVID-19, commonly known as coronavirus, and is prepared to devote whatever resources necessary to ensure a safe and productive NAB Show experience.
NAB Show is the premier event driving the evolution of media and entertainment. It is an engine for commerce and a critical launchpad for products and services expected to revolutionize the business. The convention’s 1,600 exhibitors and 90,000 attendees rely on the annual NAB Show to raise their profile and meet business goals.
While the NAB stands firm in its commitment to hold the convention as planned, the health and safety of attendees and participants are NAB’s top priority. To that end, NAB is dedicated to providing rapid responses and assistance in support of the global NAB Show community’s participation plans. The event management team has launched a COVID-19 resource page on the NAB Show website, where updates will be provided.
Currently, NAB is:
• Adhering to all guidance and recommended safety measures issued by the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and local health organizations.
• Working with the Las Vegas Convention Center, the airport authority, and area hotels and resorts to coordinate appropriate safety procedures.
• Following CDC recommendations and protocols for heightened levels of cleanliness at event facilities.
• Making accommodations and actively encouraging attendees to take common-sense precautions and follow CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of illness.
• Ensuring medical care is readily accessible to address immediate health concerns.
• Working with China-based exhibitors and registered attendees to evaluate options for those unable to attend due to travel restrictions. Of note, NAB Show attendance from China, although growing, represented less than 2 percent of total registered attendees in 2019.
NAB is taking COVID-19 very seriously and is fully invested and prepared to host a successful NAB Show in Las Vegas. The city of Las Vegas is maintaining rigorous cleanliness and safety standards throughout public spaces, resorts and meeting facilities, and hosts successful trade events daily. Meanwhile, NAB Show has experienced an uptick in exhibit sales, attendee registration and hotel bookings in recent weeks, and conference program speakers are confirmed daily.

NAB Show to Explore Artemis Lunar Exploration Program with NASA Administrator

Tue, 18 Feb 2020 16:46:48 -0500

NAB Show has confirmed NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine as a featured speaker for a NAB Show Main Stage session on Monday, April 20 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The session will focus on the use of advanced media technology in documenting NASA’s Artemis program, targeting a return to the Moon by 2024, sustainable exploration by 2028 and preparing for human exploration of Mars in the 2030s.
The Artemis program includes plans for robotic and human scientific research of the lunar surface and observations of the solar system that can only be performed beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. Paramount to the missions will be documenting human expeditions for the world to see, including the first woman and next man on the Moon by 2024.
“When we return to the Moon, the camera is the mission,” said Bridenstine. “Through advances in media technology, we look forward to sharing this incredible endeavor with the world using modern audio and video capabilities and distributing the content across an array of platforms.”
Bridenstine was nominated by the President, confirmed by the U.S. Senate and sworn in as NASA’s 13th administrator on April 23, 2018. The Administrator serves as NASA's chief executive officer, responsible for leading NASA in its mission to discover and expand knowledge for the benefit of humanity. This leadership requires articulating the agency's vision, setting its programmatic and budget priorities and internal policies, and assessing agency performance.
Before joining NASA, Bridenstine served in the U.S. Congress, representing Oklahoma’s First Congressional District, serving on the Armed Services Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee. Bridenstine’s career in federal service began in the U.S. Navy, flying the E-2C Hawkeye off the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier.

A PDU is a device with multiple outlets designed to distribute electric power to computers or networking equipment within a rack. For example, a blade server installation consisting of four 7U blade server frames in a 42U rack would require sixteen 20A power supplies! PDUs solve this problem by taking the power supplied to the rack and distributing it via multiple outlets to the rack’s servers and networking equipment.
With so many types of PDUs from which to choose, it can be a challenge to determine which PDU is best for your rack power design.
Our friends at Tripp Lite have put together a handy guide to help you make the choice that best suited for your application. Read the Guide to Choosing the Right PDU from Tripp Lite Here!
