First off, read the manual before you plug in the microphone. It only takes a couple of minutes. I'm using a Win7 laptop with an SSD, which means that it's the quietest computer that I can find. I am using this microphone for voiceovers for videos and for future studio use (voice only). After reading the instructions, I attached the microphone to a mic stand, ran the cable from the microphone to my PC. This is a substantial microphone in terms of size and weight. Not massive, but it's larger and heavier than you would expect. It took about 30 seconds for Win7 to recognize the mic and install the drivers. I adjusted the microphone level. I did a test reading for about 20 seconds, but the mic was reversed. Stupid me! It picked up my voice and the TV in the background. Test reading two. Turned off the TV, turned around the mic and was very impressed by the sound quality. I'm recording directly into Sony Sound Forge v9.0D and have found it to meet my needs. I don't plan on using the mini-tripod. I will use a mic stand so when I do my voiceovers, I can stand and move my arms and have some freedom of movement. In the attached photo, I've left plenty of slack at the USB connector, and I used Velcro to keep the cord against the mic stand pole. I also replaced the original USB cable with one that is about 12 feet long, which lets me move my laptop far out of the range of the audio. In my test audio, you can hear the dog playing with his squeaky toy. He will be removed from the room during actual voiceover work. Dislikes: The extremely bright blue LED. I slipped a label maker label over it. You can still see the blue, but it doesn't blind you. I tried the headphone jack. I need to do some more testing. I want a longer USB cable to move it further from my computer. I replaced it with a much longer cable.

If you are curious about doing voice-overs and want to record test tracks, this portable mic is great. I've had success using it in "live" environments as well as when hooking up to a laptop for recording slide notes. I also use it for webcasts at my desk - the room's "live" with background noise. The mic seems to help limit some of the background sound issues because of it's cardioid pickup. If you have a sound booth or recording environment, choose one of the better Audio-Technica mics (AT2020, 2035 or 2041). The price is great. However, the quality is a bit dodgy. The first one I received stopped working immediately. The second one is still going strong. Two things irritate me about this mic. The headphone jack is nice idea, but not practical. Every time I touch the headphone cable, the sound goes right to the mic. And, the volume buttons might as well not be there. They rattle and feel very cheap.

I have used this device for six months, but I do travel with the device and have found that this device is not meant to travel. The small prongs at the base used for the USB connection are not meant to be plugged in over and over again even though I am very careful. Even going as far as purchasing a separate carry case for the microphone to go into. The USB cord now makes intermittent connections with the four prongs causing it to disconnect with the computer if the cord is not positioned just right, and is not hit accidentally during recording.

I bought this device only to find out it's not going to work with my PC. I use a different microphone from another brand and it works properly on my computer. This seemed to be the only thing that gives me the error of "USB Device Not Recognized" When I've seen this equipment work it is amazing but only when you can get it to work. I will never buy from this manufacturer again.

I've had this mic for a while now. Probably 6-8 months, and all of the sudden it's starting to be all weird with my fan in the back ground. *Note I bought a pair of studio headphones for my computer and it might be the headphones, but i'm not sure. The first few months i've had the mic I could have my fan on all day on the highest setting and you could barely hear it, that was using my default apple headphones that came with the iPhone. Now that I bought Behringer HPS 3000's the audio on the mic picks up my fan over me. Even on the lowest setting. And even with it off you can hear the noise my computer makes. I don't under stand what I did or what happened to make the mic pick so much noise up! So I might as well ask for support or something to help me fix this issue. Other than the mic picking up things it really never had or should be, in my opinion, it's great. Very easy to use HOWEVER, the initial tri-pod desk stand that comes with it is very flimsy and falls over if shake your desk or something. So I bought a 'On Stage Stands' microphone stand which works great.

I tried rebooting, changing headphones, unplugging the mic but still no sound except for skype. I have windows 8 and I noticed that there was no setup info for windows 8. Overall it is a good mic if you have anything but windows 8

Bought the mic over a year ago but didn't use it until earlier this summer for voiceover and other recording. The mic is easy to use and is easily recognizable by my Mac. The headphone connection is very helpful. I love it. The stand, though, is not good. The thread stripped far too easily and I'm trying to find a way to replace it. I don't love it. At all. This would have been a five star review if the stand hadn't failed. (apologies. review was mistakenly posted by me as a comment)
