    2028-B-SE2 - Overview

DPA Microphones 2028-B-SE2 d:facto 2028 series is a supercardiod vocal mic with an SE2 Adapter (Sennheiser 2000/6000/9000/Evolution/D1).

Built for Life on the Road
One mic allows you to capture true sound and produce an unforgettable show. Effortlessly. The 2028 Vocal Microphone is designed for the unique challenges of live stage performances. It is a flexible handheld vocal mic, which provides transparent, fantastic vocals to performers from a wide range of markets including live, HoW, broadcast, etc. Available in wired or wireless versions; either way, just plug it in and hear the vocals shine like never before.

The 2028 sports a supercardioid capsule with the famously flat DPA off axis response. This gives the microphone a very high gain before feedback and at the same time makes it so much easier for sound engineers to handle bleed from other instruments at close proximity. The 2028 picks up these off axis sounds in the most natural way.

We have designed a brand new capsule for the 2028, which is an integral part of the mic. It is fixed in its position on top of the shock mount and can't be dismounted. The newly designed shock mount and pop filter have been developed specifically for the 2028.

On a live stage, the 2028 will deliver the same open and transparent sound that other DPA microphones deliver. In fact, it needs no (or very little) EQ to sound just like you are standing next to the singer listening to their performance. This allows the singer to use their voice just as if no mic was present, which puts less strain on them. In addition, it allows sound engineers to spend their time shaping the sound experience rather than covering up due to artifacts. This amazing transparency is unique for DPA vocal mics.

    • Features:

      • Renowned DPA Sound
      • Natural Vocals - From Folk to Metal
      • Reduces Feedback Issues
      • Rugged Enough for the Live Stage
      • Uniform Supercardioid Directionality
      • Extreme SPL Handling
      • Lightweight and Durable

    • Specifications:

      • Directional pattern: Supercardioid
      • Connector Type: XLR
      • Sensitivity, nominal, ± 3dB at 1kHz: 5mV/Pa; 46dB re. 1V/Pa
      • Equivalent noise level, A-weighted: 22 dB(A)
      • Total Harmonic Distortion (THD): <1% up to 139dB SPL peak
      • Dynamic range: 117dB
      • Max. SPL, peak before clipping: 160dB
      • Dimensions (LxWxH): 10 x 6 x 3"
      • Weight: 2LBs
      • Color: Black
      • Please Note: The 1% THD level (and thereby the upper limit for the dynamic range) on our mic is measured, of course, on the whole mic, not just the internal amplifier in the handle. This is why we state that we are below 1% up to 139 dB SPL. This is the same as the d:facto. Our competitors - Shure KSM 9 and Neumann KMS 105 - only specify the upper limit on the electronic amplifier, not the whole microphone (capsule and amplifier), which is the actual mic you are supposed to sing in to. Reading the specification on the KSM 9 on their website, they don't reveal this but if you read the manual, you'll find the following: This means that you are applying an electrical voltage across a dummy load - a capacitor that simulates the capacity of the capsule - but what you are measuring is not the performance of the mic, but only the performance of the amplifier.

For reference, Shure writes the following in their specifications:
      • Maximum SPL
        1kHz at 1% THD[2]
        2500Ω Load: 152dB SPL
        1000Ω Load: 152dB SPL
      • When we measure our 2028, we are happy to announce that we are hitting a level of 160 dB - 8 dB higher - that, as you know, is more than the double the KSM 9.
      • We have also measured the performance of the Shure KSM 9 on their acoustical capabilities on an acoustical measured level up to the 1% THD. We are way above their level in terms of handling high SPLs.
      • As can be seen on the specifications for the 2028,we are on the exact same level as for the d:facto for this 1% THD, i.e. 139 dB SPL peak as well as on the exact same level on the Max SPL, peak before clipping: 160 dB corresponding to a THD level of 10%.
