The Belden 8255 is a Coax 93Ω RG-62B/U Type, 24 AWG (7x32) bare copper-covered steel conductor, semi-solid polyethylene insulation, bare copper braid shield (95% coverage), non-contaminating PVC jacket. Applications include Computer & Instrumentation.
Practical Useage
Its RG-62/93Ω construction makes it appropriate for older coaxial computer-network installations and equipment designed specifically for RG-62B/U cable. It should not be treated as a substitute for standard 50Ω cables such as RG-58 or 75Ω television/video coax unless the equipment manufacturer specifies otherwise.It can be used for low-voltage, single-channel signals where the connected equipment calls for 93Ω impedance. Applications might include industrial signaling or point-to-point instrument connections.
Use Belden 8255 where the equipment documentation specifies RG-62, 93Ω coax, computer/instrumentation cable, or an equivalent 93Ω interconnect. 8255 is most appropriate when the system calls specifically for 93Ω RG-62B/U coax, particularly in instrumentation and older computer/data installations. The connected equipment and the governing installation code should determine whether it is acceptable.
Please Note: The cable is not automatically suitable for Ethernet, CCTV, RF broadcasting, high-power service or modern broadband networks. Compatibility depends on the equipment's required impedance, connector type, attenuation and voltage rating. Its listed CMX construction is also not a general permission for every indoor concealed or plenum application.
