NEUTRIK XX Series silentPLUGs automatically mute (shorts) an instrument (guitar) cable to avoid pops and squeals when changing the instrument (guitar) under load. The integrated silent switch is based on REED-technology and guarantees a lifetime beyond 1,000 mating cycles. The connector features a spring-loaded, retracting ring on the plug finger that connects to the internal reed switch. It's simple, when the ring is in forward position without an instrument plugged in, the reed switch shorts the tip and sleeve contacts. When the plug is almost fully inserted into the instrument jack, the silentPLUG ring retracts as the plug seats into the jack, the reed switch unshorts the tip and sleeve contacts, and the signal passes normally.
