    Best Uses

I purchased these keyboards to replace several Sejin Electronic Inc SKR-2233 keyboards that had some missing function buttons. Those keyboards have lasted 6 years of constant abuse by students in a newsroom and lab setting. But I have not been able to find replacements for them.

Because our newsroom often goes dark while people are working in it (due to occupational sensors), I thought these backlit keyboards might be helpful. Therefore, I purchased these Editors Keys keyboards as replacements and tried them on my own editing computer.

The keys are not well defined physically so I am not sure where my figures are going to hit. I like keys with a little more separation between them and a little more height. These keys are very flat and low profile. I am finding that I make too many errors on the keys once I get them initially placed.

The feet on the bottom are tiny and do not put much of an angle on the keyboard. I don't know if this is good or bad ergonomically, but it doesn't feel comfortable to me when it sits on top of my desk. Basically, I would consider this a flat keyboard. If you need one that had an angle to it, consider others.

The keys themselves feel a little sticky on top, like the paint isn't quite dry. But over time, this reduced. The paint sheen is easily changed with a wipe of the finger nails but they seem to hold up to use without fading. The emblems are not quite the same as pictured on the website. For instance, the "Play/Stop" is not on the space bar (which is not really a big deal).

The backlight turns on and off with the Scroll key (top row). I find the backlight to be very functional for an editor, who will tend to be in subdued light. The backlight is very blue and not full spectrum. Therefore, the blue keys are rather bright while the red is very dark and V and B are black so they are not easily seen. It is very difficult to see a color difference between the yellow and orange keys.

Since the keyboard lays flat, if the keyboard is on a high table top, the backlight shows under the keys causing glare. If the person is over the top (such as when the keyboard is in a keyboard tray) the backlights are covered and there is no glare.

I purchased 5 of these keyboards and one of them was missing screws in the back.

A few of the keys are a little squeaky, especially the backspace key. And now, after about a month of use, the backspace key is sticking. I do not see these keys being able to handle the constant attack for writing news stories.

So in conclusion, if this keyboard is used strictly for editing and not long term typing, they might be quite functional. However, if you type a lot of text, such as in a Newsroom, I do not recommend these keyboards.
