The Sescom SES-BAL-LN2INST is a compact, passively designed converter built to bridge the gap between balanced line-level sources and instrument-level inputs. At its core is Sescom's own IL-19 transformer, chosen for its wide, flat frequency response that keeps the signal clean and accurate while providing ground isolation. Its sturdy build makes it a practical choice for permanent installation in custom panels or road cases. The converter handles the job of reducing hotter signals transparently, maintaining the character and clarity of the original audio. It's well suited for connecting professional A/V or broadcast equipment to guitar amplifiers, DI boxes, or other high-impedance gear.
A Passive Balanced Line Level to Instrument Level Analog Audio Converter - more commonly known as a re-amp box - is a passive device that converts a professional balanced line-level signal (+4dBu) into the high-impedance, unbalanced signal expected by guitar amplifiers and effects pedals. Using an internal transformer, it simultaneously attenuates the signal to instrument level, matches impedance, converts from balanced to unbalanced, and provides galvanic isolation to eliminate ground loop noise - all without requiring any external power.
In practice, this allows engineers and musicians to replay pre-recorded audio back through real amplifiers and pedals, whether to refine a guitar tone after the fact, run synthesizers or vocals through analog effects, or capture a clean DI signal at night and re-amp it through a loud amp at a more convenient time.
Sescom Tech Tip: Not compatible with phantom power.
